Dell XPS 13 7390 (Late 2019 version)

The Dell XPS 13 has been regarded as one of the best Windows notebook for years, particularly if you wanted the perfect blend of slimness, style and performance. One can even argue that it is the best ultrabook that one should buy today, even though the term ultrabooks is no longer in vogue, the XPS 13 simply ticks off the checklist because it offers an excellent display, powerful hardware options along with decent keyboard and battery life. Best of all, the company packs all of this in a device that is no bigger than 12-inches, and is genuinely more compact than most other 13-inch laptops.

The Dell XPS 13 2019 2 in 1 7390 was announced back in August and was recently launched in Bangladesh. Dell hasn’t messed around with the overall design language and the new model looks similar to the previous-gen, which is probably a good move. You will find the same aluminum chassis on the outside with a stunning display with a textured keyboard deck and a super slim bezel. Dell has also managed to bring the webcam back up and claims that it is the smallest camera they have ever put on a laptop. Of course, the innards have been updated with the latest Intel 10th-gen Comet Lake processor options along with some improved battery life.

Keyboard

The typing experience on the 2nd gen MagLev keyboard is similar to Apple’s 3rd-generation Butterfly keyboard on the latest MacBook Air. Dell’s has better travel and is a little easier on your fingers. But it’s not dramatically different. The standard XPS 13 keyboard has the best travel.

Display

The 7390 has an FHD+ (1,920-by-1,200) 13.4-inch display. The “+” indicates more pixels than the standard FHD (1,920-by-1,080). The resolution is high enough that most users won’t need Dell’s 4K display option. I typically spec my systems with a 4K display (the XPS 13 9380 I’m using now is 4K). After a week with the FHD+ display, I have no complaints. But over the long haul would still prefer a 4K display.

Bezel

The top display bezel is so thin that it cannot accommodate a Windows Hello face-recognition infrared camera. There is only room for the webcam (like the XPS 13 9380). There is, however, a fingerprint reader built into the power button like the 9380. I suspect that Dell, as HP has done with its new Spectre x360, will eventually come up with a solution to fit an infrared camera into a thin top bezel

Performance

Intel’s 10th gen Core i7 CPU (15-watt) benchmarks fast. It’s way faster than the Retina MacBook Air and is comparable to the high-end MacBook Pro. See these Geekbench benchmarks. And for comparison, check out the benchmarks for the highest-end mid-2019 MacBook Pro 13 with a 28-watt 2.8-GHz Core i7 (8569U). In short, Dell has managed to squeeze a fast Core i7 processor (quad-core) and Intel high-end Iris graphics into a chassis as thin as the Retina MacBook Air.

Palm rest

The arctic white palm rest is both gorgeous and practical. The woven glass fiber material is UV-resistant and has a stain resistant coating. You can feel the coating, which is a different texture than the black carbon fiber palm rest that is also available. Another great thing: no fingerprints. Most laptops I use are fingerprint magnets and require regular cleaning. But the arctic white Dell XPS 13 2019 2 in 1 7390 always looks clean.

Speakers

Definite improvement over the XPS 13 9380. More bass, more mid-range. Though not as good as the MacBook Air’s speakers, the speakers are a giant step up from the 9380 and close enough to the MBA that I’m perfectly happy using it every day instead of the Air.

Battery life

Easily all day coverage we can get from XPS 13 7390. And that’s even with the brightness at about 90 percent. Most users will get all-day battery life with the FHD+ display config if they’re not pushing the envelope.

Graphics

The Dell XPS 13’s Intel UHD graphics scored a 95,288 on the 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited test, which edges out the scores of the previous Dell XPS 13 (88,473, UHD 620), the HP Spectre x360 (90,977, UHD 620) and the premium laptop average. Our optimism was dashed when the XPS 13 played the racing game Dirt 3 at just 34 frames per second. That’s above our 30-fps threshold but we saw higher frame rates on the XPS 13 2-in-1 (45 fps), the MacBook Pro (38 fps) and the HP Spectre x360 (56 fps). The category average (60 fps) tops all of these thin laptops.

Webcam of Dell XPS 13

The Dell XPS 13’s webcam is average but it at least doesn’t look up your nose. Dell solved our biggest complaint with the XPS 13 earlier this year by returning the camera to its rightful place above the display.
This new model keeps the camera location, which helps to overshadow the deficiencies of the tiny 0.08-inch lens. There wasn’t a ton of noise in a selfie I snapped in our dimly lit office, but my face looked smudgy and the lights above me were blown out.

Heat of the XPS 13 7390

The Dell XPS 13 kept its cool after playing a 15-minute full-screen YouTube video. The laptop’s touchpad warmed to 81 degrees Fahrenheit while the center of the keyboard peaked at just 89 degrees. Even the hottest area the underside near the vent didn’t breach our 95-degree comfort threshold.

Dell XPS 13 in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh XPS 13 with 10th generation processor are not available in most of the shops. But this is not your headache as Computer Mania BD is here to help you. In Computer Mania BD you can get Dell XPS 13 with official Dell warranty support and in very reasonable price compared to other shops in Bangladesh.

Overall

Dell supercharged our favorite laptop by upgrading the XPS 13 with 10th-Gen Comet Lake processors. Combine that outstanding performance with the gorgeous 4K display; A premium, ultraportable chassis; And a decent keyboard, and it should come as no surprise that the XPS 13 is our favorite laptop. The only real fault with the XPS 13 is the 4K model’s below-average battery life, which is easily avoided by going with the 1080p version.
